The best Juan Soto rookie cards, ranked (2026 prices)
Juan Soto's best rookie cards ranked, from the 2016 Bowman Chrome auto to 2018 Topps Chrome Update and the Gatorade Bath SSP, with 2026 prices and PSA pops.
By MLBTSDB · October 4, 2026 · Prices as of October 3, 2026
Juan Soto has been an elite hitter since the day he arrived. The Nationals signed him out of the Dominican Republic in 2015, he reached the majors in 2018 and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting, and a year later he was a World Series champion in Washington. By the end of 2024 he was a four-time All-Star with the best on-base percentage in baseball since his debut, and that December he signed a 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, the largest in professional sports history.
That combination of early stardom and a market-moving contract keeps his cards in demand. His rookie year, 2018, came well into the modern era of heavy printing and mass grading, so his base rookies are plentiful and cheap. Real money sits in three places: his 2016 Bowman Chrome prospect autograph, serial-numbered parallels, and autographs and short prints from his rookie year.
How we ranked them
We weighed how iconic each card is, how scarce it really is (print run, PSA population and gem rate) and what it sells for now. Prices are recent sold results from 2025 and 2026, rounded into ranges. Gem rate is the share of PSA-graded copies that came back a PSA 10; for modern cards it tends to be high, which is why base rookies in PSA 10 are inexpensive.
Soto's rookie cards are his 2018 releases, led by Topps Update, Topps Chrome Update and Bowman's Best. His 2016 and 2017 Bowman cards came out before he reached the majors, so they are prospect cards, not rookies. The 2016 Bowman Chrome autograph is such a big part of his market that we ranked it, clearly labeled, and covered the rest of his pre-rookie cards at the end. We kept the list to the eight cards collectors actually chase.
1.2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph #CPA-JS (prospect card, not a rookie)
2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $2,550–$3,400 |
| PSA 9 | $1,000–$1,180 |
| Raw | $765–$1,425 |
- Population:
- 600 graded · 249 PSA 10
- Gem rate:
- 41.5%
Soto's first Bowman card, and the most valuable Soto card most collectors will ever consider. Topps signed him for its 2016 Bowman Chrome prospect autographs a year after he joined the Nationals, two years before his debut, so this is a pre-rookie card. The hobby treats Bowman Chrome first autographs as a player's key card anyway, and Soto's is no exception.
It is also scarce for a modern card. PSA has graded only about 600 base copies, against more than 36,000 Topps Update rookies, and fewer than half came back a 10. PSA 10s sold between about $2,550 and $3,400 through 2026, up from roughly $2,100 to $2,600 in late 2025. For more scarcity, there is a deep run of numbered refractors, from the Refractor /499 down through Purple /250, Blue /150, Green /99, Gold /50, Orange /25 and Red /5. A Refractor /499 in PSA 10 sold for $6,250 in September 2026.
2.2018 Topps Chrome Update #HMT55
2018 Topps Chrome Update
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $52–$75 |
| PSA 9 | $20–$45 |
| Raw | $12–$25 |
The definitive Soto rookie. Soto was called up after most of 2018's checklists had already been printed, and Topps Chrome Update was where he got his first chromium rookie card. The set was sold only through Target, and it's the version of his rookie card that most collectors think of first.
The base card is affordable in any grade: PSA 10s were selling between about $52 and $75 in late September 2026. Its real importance is as the base for his most important parallels and autographs, which are the next two cards on this list. Don't confuse it with #HMT98, a separate Rookie Debut card in the same set that sells for less.
3.2018 Topps Chrome Update Rookie Autograph Refractor #HMT55
2018 Topps Chrome Update Autographs
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $2,200–$3,800 |
| PSA 9 | $1,650–$1,700 |
| Raw | $750–$1,000 |
Soto's best rookie-year autograph. Topps Chrome Update included a Rookie Autographs insert, and Soto's signature comes on the same #HMT55 design as his base rookie. It trades far less often than the base card.
PSA 10s sold between about $2,200 and $3,800 from late 2024 to August 2025, and a PSA 9 brought $1,700 in August 2026. Numbered versions run X-Fractor /125, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5 and a Superfractor 1/1, and they trade rarely enough that each sale stands on its own. For a collector who wants a signed, true Soto rookie, this is the one.
4.2018 Topps Chrome Update Refractor #HMT55 (/250)
2018 Topps Chrome Update
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $1,950–$2,700 |
| PSA 9 | $975–$1,250 |
| Raw | $795–$920 |
The most widely collected numbered parallel of Soto's main rookie. Chrome Update refractors are serial-numbered to 250 and fell about one per 48 packs, so this is genuinely scarce next to the base card. PSA 10s sold between about $1,950 and $2,700 in 2026, and PSA 9s around $975 to $1,250.
Higher up the ladder are the X-Fractor /99, Gold /50, Red /25 and a single Superfractor, along with an unnumbered Pink Refractor from value packs, which costs a few hundred dollars in a PSA 10. The /250 refractor is the sweet spot: a numbered Chrome rookie with a real population ceiling, at a price that is still well below the 2016 autograph.
5.2018 Topps Update #US300, Gatorade Bath image variation (SSP)
2018 Topps Update
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $3,400–$4,250 |
| PSA 9 | $1,675–$2,450 |
| Raw | $1,400–$2,000 |
The most expensive of his paper rookies, and the most fun. Topps swapped the standard batting photo for a super-short-printed image variation of Soto getting a Gatorade bath, inserted far less often than the regular card. Topps doesn't publish the print run, but sales are infrequent, and the price says the rest.
PSA 10s sold for about $3,400 to $4,250 in 2026, more than the 2016 autograph, and PSA 9s for $1,675 to $2,450. Check the photo before you buy: the variation and the base card share the number US300, so mislabeled listings are common. A matching 5x7 version numbered to 49 also exists and trades separately.
6.2018 Topps Update #US300
2018 Topps Update
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $31–$57 |
| PSA 9 | $10–$24 |
- Population:
- 36,833 graded · 24,145 PSA 10
- Gem rate:
- 65.6%
Soto's flagship Topps rookie, and one of the most-graded baseball cards of the century. By late 2024 it was the 28th most-graded card in PSA history and the third-most-graded baseball card from any 21st-century set; PSA has now graded nearly 37,000, and about two in three came back a 10. That supply is why a PSA 10 sells for $31 to $57 in 2026. It's the right card for anyone who just wants a Soto rookie in a slab.
If you want the same card with real scarcity, look at the Gold parallel numbered to 2018. PSA 10s of the Gold sold between about $1,000 and $1,700 in 2025 and 2026, and PSA 9s around $410 to $525. Topps Update also includes a separate #US104 Rookie Debut card that sells for less than either.
7.2018 Bowman's Best of 2018 Autographs #B18-JSO
2018 Bowman's Best
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $650–$950 |
| PSA 9 | $300–$600 |
| Raw | $345–$950 |
The value pick among his rookie-year autographs. Bowman's Best closed out 2018 with a Best of 2018 Autographs insert of the year's top rookies, and Soto's is a signed card from that insert. It doesn't carry the Topps Chrome name, which keeps the price down, but it is a genuine rookie-year autograph.
PSA 10s sold for about $650 to $950 between late 2025 and mid-2026, roughly a quarter of what a Chrome Update autograph costs in the same grade. Raw prices are all over the place, from about $345 to $950, so buying graded is the safer route.
8.2018 Bowman's Best #29
2018 Bowman's Best
| Grade | Price |
|---|---|
| PSA 10 | $27–$60 |
| PSA 9 | $18–$25 |
| Raw | $3–$10 |
His Bowman's Best base card, listed as a rookie, and the cheapest chromium Soto rookie-year card worth owning. It has the classic Bowman's Best look, but it has never had the following of Topps Chrome Update. PSA 10s sold between about $27 and $60 in September 2026, and refractor and Atomic Refractor parallels sell for a modest premium. It rounds out a Soto collection for very little money.
Before the rookies: Soto's prospect cards
Soto's 2016 and 2017 Bowman cards aren't rookies, but they are where many collectors start.
- 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph parallels. Beyond the base auto ranked above, the numbered refractors are the high end of the Soto market. A Refractor /499 in PSA 10 sold for $6,250 in September 2026, and the lower-numbered colors trade only occasionally.
- 2017 Bowman Chrome Prospects #BCP-180. His first non-autographed Bowman Chrome card. PSA 10s sold for about $33 to $53 in August and September 2026; Gold /50, Green /99 and Blue /150 refractors cost more.
- 2018 Bowman Chrome #BCP52. Released in his rookie season but as a prospect card, so it doesn't count as a true rookie. Mega Box versions come with their own numbered refractors.
Which one should you buy?
- The definitive card: 2018 Topps Chrome Update #HMT55, in PSA 10 for well under $100.
- The scarcity play: the 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph, or the /250 Chrome Update refractor if you want a true rookie.
- The best value: the 2018 Bowman's Best of 2018 Autographs, a rookie-year autograph for under $1,000 in PSA 10.
- On a budget: a 2018 Topps Update #US300 in PSA 10, around $30 to $60.
Soto is one of the most-used hitters in MLB The Show, too. He has 27 cards across MLB The Show 21 through 26, topping out at 99 overall, including a 2025 Finest 99 in MLB The Show 25 and both a 2024 All-Star 99 and a 2024 Postseason 99 in 24.
