The best Mike Trout rookie cards, ranked (2026 prices)

The Mike Trout cards worth chasing, from 2011 Topps Update #US175 to his 2009 Bowman Chrome autos, with 2026 sold prices, PSA pops and gem rates.

By MLBTSDB · October 4, 2026 · Prices as of October 3, 2026

Mike Trout is the player who made modern prospect collecting what it is. The Angels took him 25th overall in 2009, he debuted on July 8, 2011, and the next season he won AL Rookie of the Year unanimously. Three AL MVPs (2014, 2016 and 2019), 12 All-Star selections and more than 400 home runs later, his cards are still the yardstick every new star gets measured against.

Two things shaped his market. The first is that his most important card arrived two years before his official rookies: the autographed 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft prospect card, signed on the card and showing him in an Angels uniform a few months after the draft. The second is the 2020 boom and the long correction that followed. His flagship rookie sold for $9,300 in a PSA 10 in August 2020, fell to around $630 by December 2025, and has climbed back to roughly $1,000 in 2026.

How we ranked them

We weighed three things: how iconic the card is to collectors, how scarce it really is (print run, PSA population and gem rate), and what it sells for today. Prices are recent sold results, mostly from the past three months, rounded into ranges. Where a card trades only a few times a year, we give the last public sale and its date. Gem rate is the share of PSA-graded copies that came back a PSA 10. Many of the 2009 autographs live in Beckett (BGS) holders, so for those we quote BGS 9.5, which is where that market actually trades.

What counts as a rookie. Trout's official rookie cards are his 2011 cards with the RC logo, led by 2011 Topps Update #US175, the 2011 Bowman Chrome and Bowman Chrome Draft cards, and 2011 Finest. The 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft autographs are prospect cards, not rookies. We normally keep pre-rookies out of the ranking, but Trout's market is built on that one autograph, so we ranked its key versions and labeled each one clearly. We kept the parallel ladder to the rungs that actually trade, plus the two one-of-a-kind sales that set the market. We left out the 2011 Topps Update Platinum one-of-one, which sold privately for $1.05 million in 2021 and is effectively off the market, and his other prospect and minor-league cards are covered at the end.

1.2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs Superfractor 1/1 #BDPP89 (prospect card)

BGS 9 (Auto 10)$3.936 million (Aug 2020)
Population:
1 of 1

This is the sale that turned Trout's 2009 autograph into the most famous prospect card in the hobby. Topps made exactly one Superfractor of it. Graded BGS 9 with a 10 autograph, it sold at Goldin on August 23, 2020 for $3.936 million, at the time the most ever paid for any baseball card. Its owner had bought it in May 2018 for $400,000.

It ranks first because nothing else in Trout's catalog carries that weight. It held the record for a modern card for more than five years, until Aaron Judge's 2013 Bowman Chrome Draft Superfractor sold privately for $5.2 million in March 2026. Remember what it is, though: a prospect card, issued two years before Trout's official rookies.

2.2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs Red Refractor /5 #BDPP89 (prospect card)

BGS 9.5$216,000 (Mar 2024)
Orange /25, BGS 9.5$51,500–$60,000
Population:
5 made

The Red Refractor shows better than any card how far the top of Trout's market has moved. One copy sold for $922,500 in May 2020; its owner had paid $180,000 for it. A BGS 9.5 brought $1.08 million at PWCC in October 2022. Then the 5/5 copy, also a BGS 9.5 with a 10 autograph, sold for $216,000 in March 2024. With only five in existence, a public sale is a once-every-few-years event, so treat that last price as a marker, not a market.

The Orange Refractor, numbered to 25, sits one rung down and tells the same story with more data. A PSA 10 sold for $344,400 in July 2020; BGS 9.5 copies have traded between about $51,500 and $60,000 in 2026.

3.2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs Gold Refractor /50 #BDPP89 (prospect card)

PSA 10$211,560 (Oct 2021)
BGS 9.5$37,000–$43,200
Population:
35 BGS 9.5 · 5 PSA-graded (1 PSA 10)

The Gold Refractor is where the rare end of the ladder becomes something you can actually price. It's numbered to 50, gold is the color most collectors recognize at a glance, and it trades a few times a year. A BGS 9.5 sold for $43,200 in April 2025, and two more brought $38,400 and $37,000 between July and September 2026.

PSA copies barely exist. Only five have been graded, and the single PSA 10 last sold for $211,560 in October 2021, close to the market's peak. Like most high-end Bowman Chrome from this era, the bulk of the 50 sit in Beckett holders.

For most serious Trout collectors, this is the card. The unnumbered base version was inserted into 2009 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects packs, and every parallel above takes its value from this design: Trout in an Angels uniform with his signature on the card itself.

It isn't an official rookie card, and the market doesn't care. PSA 10s sold for $6,150 to $8,988 through 2025, and one brought $11,100 in August 2026. Most copies are in BGS slabs, where 9.5s with a 10 autograph have traded from about $3,850 to $5,900 over the past three months. Set that against the 2022 high, when a PSA 10 sold for $22,080 at Goldin, and today's prices look far more grounded.

5.2011 Topps Update #US175

2011 Topps Update

Recent sales

PSA 10$810–$1,125
PSA 9$355–$480

Trout's flagship rookie, and the card most people mean when they say "the Trout rookie." It came in the late-season Update set after his July 2011 debut, and it absorbed the full force of both the boom and the bust. A PSA 10 sold for $9,300 in August 2020. Sports Illustrated reported one at $630 in December 2025, a 93% drop.

It has recovered since. PSA 10s sold for about $1,100 at the end of March 2026 and $1,200 in April, and roughly 124 sales between July and early October landed between $810 and $1,125. Scarcity isn't the story: more than 16,500 have been graded and over 40% of them are 10s, so a gem copy is always for sale. That makes it the right pick for a collector who wants the official rookie in a top grade, and it's why it ranks below the 2009 autographs.

6.2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs Refractor /500 #BDPP89 (prospect card)

2009 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects (Chrome Prospect Autographs)

Blue /150, BGS 9.5$13,200–$14,400

PSA 9$5,700 (Jul 2024)

220 BGS 9.5 · 85 PSA-graded · 23 PSA 10
Gem rate:
27.1%

The Refractor, numbered to 500, is the entry point to the colored ladder. Above it sit the X-fractor (/225) and the Blue Refractor (/150), then the Gold (/50), Orange (/25), Red (/5) and the Superfractor. It's the most affordable way to own a numbered version of Trout's key card.

BGS 9.5 copies have sold between about $6,350 and $8,000 since July 2026, a modest step above the unnumbered base autograph. The Blue Refractor roughly doubles that: a BGS 9.5 sold for $14,400 in April 2025 and another for $13,200 in September 2026. PSA slabs are scarce here too, and their last public sales date to 2024.

7.2011 Topps Update #US175 Gold /2011

2011 Topps Update (Gold parallel)

Recent sales
GradePrice
PSA 10~$7,500
PSA 9$1,900–$2,500
PSA 8$760–$985
Population:
458 graded · 53 PSA 10
Gem rate:
11.6%

Every card in 2011 Topps Update came in a gold parallel numbered to 2,011, and Trout's is the numbered version of his flagship rookie that collectors chase most. What sets it apart is condition. Only about 12% of PSA-graded copies are 10s, against more than 40% for the base card, so a gem copy is genuinely hard to find.

The prices reflect that. A PSA 10 sold for $7,500 in September 2026, PSA 9s have climbed to $1,900–$2,500, and even PSA 8s traded between about $760 and $985 in 2025. If you want the flagship rookie with real scarcity behind it, this is a better bet than a base PSA 10.

Topps marked its 60th year in 2011 with a family of "Diamond Anniversary" parallels that ran through Series 1, Series 2 and Update. The Cognac version isn't numbered (Topps listed it only as limited), and it fell about one in every 12 hobby packs. PSA has graded only about 500 Trout copies.

PSA 10s sold for $4,050 and $4,351 in 2025 and for $5,100 in June 2026, and PSA 9s have run $1,380–$1,860 over the past three months. It edges the standard Diamond Anniversary card below because there are fewer of them, and fewer still in a 10.

9.2011 Topps Update #US175 Diamond Anniversary

2011 Topps Update (Diamond Anniversary parallel)

Recent sales
GradePrice
PSA 10$4,080–$4,680
PSA 9$1,470–$1,865

The standard Diamond Anniversary parallel is the most liquid of Trout's premium Update variants. It sells most weeks in a PSA 10, and 11 sales between July and early October 2026 fell between $4,080 and $4,680, about four times the base card in the same grade.

Nearly half of all PSA-graded copies are 10s, so this is a card people buy for its look and its anniversary-year story rather than for condition scarcity. Business of Card Grading put PSA 10s near $5,000 in April 2026, a little above where they've settled since.

10.2011 Bowman Chrome #175

Bowman Chrome is the brand prospect collectors trust, and Trout has two Bowman Chrome rookies from 2011: #175 in the regular set and #101 in Bowman Chrome Draft. The black-bordered #175 is the tougher grade of the two, with fewer than one in five PSA copies earning a 10. PSA 10s have sold for $540–$806 over the past three months.

The Chrome Draft #101 is the cheaper alternative, with PSA 10s at $430–$841 and PSA 9s at roughly $160–$275 since July. For a true condition rarity on a small budget, look at the paper 2011 Bowman Draft #101: only 259 of the 5,249 PSA-graded copies, under 5%, are 10s.

Before the rookies: Trout's other prospect cards

The 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft autographs are ranked above, but they aren't Trout's only pre-rookie cards.

  • 2009 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects #BDPP89 (unsigned) — the same prospect design without the autograph, in both Chrome and paper. It's the cheapest way to own Trout's first Bowman card.
  • 2010 Bowman Platinum Prospect Autographs — another early Trout signature. It's notoriously hard to grade: Business of Card Grading puts its gem rate at 3.9%.
  • 2011 Topps Heritage Minor League #44 — a minor-league card from his rookie year, with parallels numbered to 62 and 620.

Which one should you buy?

  • The definitive card: the 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autograph. A BGS 9.5 runs about $4,000–$6,000. If you want an official rookie instead, it's 2011 Topps Update #US175.
  • The scarcity play: the 2011 Topps Update Gold /2011 in PSA 10, or a Blue Refractor autograph numbered to 150.
  • The best value: the 2009 Refractor autograph /500 in BGS 9.5. You get a numbered version of the key card for not much more than the base auto.
  • On a budget: 2011 Topps Update #US175 in PSA 9 (about $400), or 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft #101 in PSA 9 for under $300.

Trout's in-game career is still going strong. He has 25 cards across MLB The Show 21 through 26, topping out at 99 overall, including a 2026 All-Star 99 and a 2026 Awards 99 in MLB The Show 26 and a Milestone 99 in 25. See every Mike Trout card in MLB The Show — the most recent ones are below.
